It's been a few days since my last post, and I had fully intended to blog on the Friday morning before we left Richmond forthe airport, but some early morning events really cut into our schedule leaving me no time to even quickly write a note.
Friday morning was filled with excitement. We told Makai that morning that we were going on 3 airplanes and that when we landed we would see Kulu (Zulu for grandfather - this is what he calls my dad), Gramma and Grandad (Paul's parents).
He was beyond thrilled and knew exactly what was going on as we were packing our last things. He was running around the Guest House, giving high fives, wanting groups hugs, shouting "CHEERS", you name it. He couldn't wait to be home.
Both children were amazing travellers again. They both slept well on the plane, and although the adults didn't sleep a wink, we were just happy to have 2 well rested babies. We travelled for 31 hours and as we were decending into Pearson International (I mean, we could see the highway and houses), both of them were dressed in their "good clothes" to see everyone at the airport, and I was thinking, "this is going very well", and then, before I knew what was happening, both of them barfed everywhere! All over their clothes and all over me! I ended up walking through the airport with a blanket around me, but hey, we were home, and that was all that mattered!
I wish I could have captured the look on Makai's face when he saw the 3 grandparents standing there, waiting for us. He actually ran out of his shoes trying to get to them. And again later last evening when he was reunited with his best friend, Reis. Just priceless.
We got some sleep last night, not alot, but some. We are happy to be home. We will spend the next few days catching up on sleep and maybe visiting a Chiropractor, but we'll be fine.
I want to thank all of you, our friends and family, for taking the time out of your day to follow along on our life changing journey. Your messages of love and encouragement were wonderful while we were away. I loved opening my email/Facebook in the mornings to read messages from home. They meant alot to us.
With this message, our South Africa blog will come to an end. I have to be honest and say I will miss it. Maybe I'll start another one before our next adoption (don't tell Paul I said that!).
We feel very blessed that God chose us to parent these beautiful children. Our reality is much bigger than we could have ever dreamed for ourselves....and we are so thankful.....everyday.....thankful!
Blessings to you all,
The Walker Family (& Gogo - Zulu for grandmother) xoxoxoxo
