We received news today that Adaya's temporary passport is being printed and we should have it tomorrow, which means we are on schedule to catch our Friday evening flight out of Durban and land in Toronto on Saturday. WooooHooooo!
We are very excited to be going home.
We are very excited to be going home.
I am very anxious to get back into a routine. I am very happy that Makai will get to see his buddy Reis again. I am looking forward to seeing our minivan....the VW Polo Classic is nice but a touch on the small, squishy side.
I'm sure Sunday morning will be a 2am start as we will all be on South Africa time for quite a while. The last time we got home we were playing in the living room by 3am for the first few days. Hello Tim...welcome to the end of my street and thank you for being open 24 hours.
As much as we are longing for home, there are things I will miss about being here. I will miss the slow, laid back lifestyle around us. The "if it takes me an hour to get through this line, it's ok, I can wait" kinda attitude. It's a refreshing change from the"I have all day to get groceries but I'll drive to Molson Park at 130kms per hour just because I love the stress it brings to my life" kinda attitdue.
I will miss the 5am wakeup call from our friendly neighbourhood roosters. I may even get a few for our backyard when we return. The neighbours will LOVE it.
I will miss going to the local supermarket and listening to people greet my children in Zulu.
I will miss living in a community where my face is the minority and the faces of my children, the majority.
Although we leave on Friday, a part of me will stay in South Africa. In the country that witnessed my children's birth and the country where their birth families and the stories of their first few months of life, still reside.
When we decided to adopt Internationally, we also decided to embrace this country, to introduce parts of the culture into our lives, to raise our children with a great pride and love of this country and these people, their people....our people.
Although we are similar in so many ways we also choose to celebrate the beautiful ways that make us so different.
